The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation awarded $25,000 to Familia Unida Living with Multiple Sclerosis in East Los Angeles on July 15, 2008, for their continuous efforts to improve the quality of life of Latinos living with multiple sclerosis.

“We are very thankful to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation for providing Familia Unida with this Quality of Life Grant because it will allow our organization to fund the ‘Paseo Sin Limites’ (Travel without Limitations) program,” said Irma Resendez, founder/CEO of Familia Unida. “This pilot program will allow our organization to provide field trips that are geared towards building relationships and providing educational experiences filled with laughter and fun for 50 families affected by multiple sclerosis.”

The Quality of Life Grants are awarded to several community based organizations around the nation each year to provide funding for programs that strive to enable those living with a disability to participate in everyday activities.

“We are thrilled to assist Familia Unida in their efforts to improve the quality of life for people living with paralysis and their families,” said Priti Mehta, associate director of community outreach for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. “Through this award Latino families living in the LA area will be able to benefit from increased independence, joy and improved access to outdoor and physical activities.”
