Archived: Preventing and Controlling Diabetes: Free Classes Starting Now

Want to learn more about preventing or controlling diabetes? The non-profit Latino Diabetes Association is hosting a free series of education and nutrition classes to address risk factors including foot care and infection complication education, kidney disease, dental care, vision, healthy nutrition and cooking demonstrations, medication education, light exercise instruction, free glucometers, glucose testing. Snacks will be provided.

Classes run for eight consecutive weeks, at seven different locations:

—Boyle Heights: Mondays from Aug. 4, 2008 through Sep. 29, 2008. Classes will be held from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Boyle Heights Technology Youth Center located at 1600 E. Fourth Street, LA CA 90033.
—Huntington Park: Mondays from Aug. 4, 2008 through Sep. 29, 2008. Classes will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at St. Martha Catholic Church, located at 6000 Seville Ave., Huntington Park 90255.
—Glassell Park: Tuesdays, Aug. 5, 2008 through Sep. 23, 2008. Classes will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at St. Bernard Church located at 2515 W. Avenue 33, LA, CA 90065.
—Bell Gardens: Wednesdays from Aug. 6, 2008 through Sep. 24, 2008. Classes will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at St. Gertrude Church located at 7025 S. Garfield, Bell Gardens CA 90201.
—Lynwood: Wednesdays from Aug. 6, 2008 through Sep. 24, 2008. Classes will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Church located at 4311 Olanda Street, Lynwood CA 90262
—Lincoln Heights: Thursdays from Aug. 7, 2008 through Sep. 24, 2008. Classes will be held at Parroquia de Maria Auxiliadora located at 512 S. Avenue 20, Los Angeles, CA 90031.
—El Sereno: Thursdays from Aug. 7, 2008 through Sep. 25, 2008 Classes will be held at the El Sereno Public Library located at 5226 Huntington Drive South, El Sereno, CA, 90032.
