When we first learned that it would be Senator John McCain and Senator Barak Obama who would be the final candidates for president we were impressed by the caliber of the candidates.
But as the campaign began to get really serious and as we got to know the candidates better, we were very disappointed by Senator McCain’s some times irrational campaign decisions, especially when compared to Senator Obama’s steady and articulate ability to keep his cool under pressure. That has had a profound impact on our view of their presidential qualities.
One of the most basic traits a president of this country should have is the ability to lead and an intellect that gives him the ability to understand and deal with complex decisions. While we believe both candidates have this ability, we are uncomfortable with Senator McCain’s wavering on some of the core issues that originally appealed to us. Unfortunately Senator McCain’s disavowal of many of the centrist views he held on issues such as immigration reform leaves us unsure if he will remain true to the man we once knew. We respect Senator McCain for his dedication to our country under duress and his willingness to buck his party on legislation he didn’t agree with. The team of McCain Palin is just not the team we have faith in.
We believe Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the team that we can expect rational, deliberative action from on many of the most important issues facing us at this time: rational assessment of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, our financial and energy crisis, national security, and taxes, among others.
And let’s not forget that this country, the good ‘ole USA, is in a deep state of despair about our future, here at home and on the world stage. We need to feel inspired and hopeful and that is why we endorse Barack Obama for President.Posted - Copyright © 2022 Eastern Group Publications, Inc.
