Archived: Thanksgiving: A Time to Count Our Blessings

Those of us blessed enough to have a home, family, friends and a bountiful Thanksgiving meal, should take time out today to count our blessings.

The toll of the poor economy on many Americans these past two years has been crushing. For many, it still is.
Homelessness, foreclosures, joblessness, food insecurity, and the lack of medical care have many Americans feeling very weary, especially at this time of year.

All across the country, including right here in on our own backyards, social service agencies have been trying to lift those nagging feelings of despair with baskets full of donated food for a Thanksgiving meal. They report that the demand has been overwhelming, surpassing the need seen in previous years.

So, today as you sit down to your Thanksgiving meal, be sure to remember our fellow Americans who are lacking so many basic things, like food and shelter, and that we all too often take for granted.

Also, keep in mind the men and women in uniform around the world, those who must work today to earn their bread and those too ill to even enjoy this day.

We wish you all a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving.
