From the 15th of September to the 15th of October, America is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
This is a time for our country to recognize the important contributions of Latinos in strengthening every aspect of American society. As entrepreneurs and business owners, we help strengthen America’s economy. We help keep America strong by producing dedicated public servants, like Small Business Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro, and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who are just three examples of Latinos who currently serve our country at the highest levels of our government. Latinos strengthen America’s communities by serving as educators, health care professionals, and social workers, to name a few. We enhance America’s culture, thanks to the many bold and original Latino performers who have become household names across the country. Latinos also strengthen America by nurturing loving and devoted families, teaching our children right from wrong, and instilling in them an appreciation and love for this great nation. And we strengthen and protect American values and our democratic way of life by serving with distinction in our nation’s armed forces.
Together with these many contributions, Latinos still face many challenges. That is why I continue to fight alongside the CHC and my fellow Democrats to create good-paying jobs at home, to ensure a quality education for our kids, and to pass a fair and just comprehensive immigration reform bill which will secure our borders, unite our families, and offer an earned path to citizenship.
The Latino community is woven into the fabric of our American tapestry. Please join me in honoring the many outstanding contributions Latinos have made, and continue to make, to our great nation. Thank you.”
