Highland Park Gunman Still Sought

The three-hour search for a gunman who ran from officers in Highland Park ended with police recovering the gun and claiming to think they know the gunman’s identity, a sergeant said Monday.

The officers on patrol observed the gunman at about 7:35 p.m. Sunday at North Avenue 56 and Ash Street, said Sgt. David Torres of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Station.

A perimeter was set up in the area and the gun was recovered, Torres said.

Police gave up the search for the suspect at 10:35 p.m. but gang officers “think they know who he is,” so they will continue to search for him, the sergeant said.

There was no shooting in the area, Torres said.
