About Us
Our History
Eastern Group Publications was founded in 1979 by the husband and wife team Jonathan and Dolores Sanchez, but its roots were planted in the community long before that. In 1945, Joseph Kovner founded the Eastside Sun which became the main source of news for east L.A’s communities. The Sanchez’s bought the chain when it was on the brink of bankruptcy.
Today, EGP’s Hispanic owned newspapers boast a circulation of more than 106,000 households and businesses. A loyal readership of nearly 500,000, our newspapers provide an excellent advertising vehicle for companies trying to reach consumers in English and/or Spanish. Our community news focus gives readers the information they want most: news and events that are happening in their own neighborhoods.
Our chain of newspapers include the Eastside Sun, the Northeast Sun, the Mexican American Sun, the Bell Gardens Sun, the City Terrace Comet, the Commerce Comet, the Montebello Comet, the Monterey Park Comet, the ELA Brookyln Belvedere Comet, the Wyvernwood Chronicle, and the Vernon Sun
